At least 27 died, 77 others injured in Jolo cathedral bombing


AT least 27 people were instantly killed, and 77 others were injured in two explosions that rocked a Catholic cathedral in Jolo, Sulu on Sunday morning.

According to the authorities, the first explosion occurred at past 8:00 a.m. outside Mt. Carmel Cathedral, where a mass was celebrated. Armed Forces spokesperson Edgar Arevalo said there were 20 parishioners who were killed. 

The second bomb exploded a few meters away from the cathedral, at a pawnshop, which was aimed at the responding 35th Infantry Battalion troops. Arevalo said the second bomb killed seven soldiers and injured 14 others.

The bombings came less than a week after the Commission on Elections deemed the Bangsamoro Organic Law ratified. LGC
