Hunat Sugbu targets 2,200 runners this year

To raise more funds for its indigent beneficiaries, Hunat Sugbu targets to bring in 2,200 runners this year.

Hunat Sugbu, an annual racing event organized by Cebu Parklane International Hotel, dedicates its proceeds to Jesu Christi Community’s medical mission.

Race is slated on June 24, 2018.

Cenelyn Manguiimotan, Parklane’s general manager, said last year’s proceeds served over 5,000 indigent patients from Jesu Christi.

Manguilomotan said their beneficiaries are “one of the reasons” they keep on doing Hunat Sugbu. She said a portion of the Hunat Sugbu funds also goes to their para-team, a group of persons-with-disabilities athletes.

Nicanor Nacorda, Hunat Sugbu chairman, said since they started Hunat Sugbu eight years ago, their beneficiaries are the patients from Jesu Christi, and each year, “our beneficiaries have increased.”

“It is also one of the reasons why we make Hunat Sugbu. Last year, we served 5,000 patients. It is encouraging for us to continue the event,” he said.

Hunat Sugbu, Nacorda narrated, started as a Justice Run in memory of the hotel’s late owner, Maning Ting. From Justice Run, which they wanted to incorporate the term “Sugbu” to the name, the people behind the race came up with “Hunat Sugbu”. At first, he said, there were only two categories: 5K to 6K, until it became an “institution of Cebu running events.”

From 1000 runners since its first few years, that number has increased over the past years. Nacorda said last year, they had 2,000 runners.

“Hopefully Hunat Sugbu 8, we can reach the target of 2,200 runners for the medical mission,” he said.

For this year, the categories are: 3K, 6K, 12K and 21K.

Race director Joel Baring said Hunat Sugbu 8 has a brand new route, and the gunstart for the 21K is at 4am at the Biliran Road of Cebu Business Park. The run’s venue is at The Terraces of Ayala Center.

Baring said there will be water stations with beverages and fruits in every 2km, and at the finish line, the traditional buffet for all finishers.

Baring said the finishers will be a medial each while the grand winner also gets to take home a trophy. A total cash prizes of P72,000 also awaits all the winners of the different categories.

Registration fee: is P400 for the 3K, P500 for the 6K, P700 and P800 for the 12K and 21K, respectively.

Registration starts on April 7 at the lobby of Cebu Parklane Hotel; and in June 11-22 in Ayala, and in May 28-June 10, SM City.
