Van crashes into bus in northern Cebu; 2 killed


A van driver and a three-year-old child died when their vehicle crashed head-on with a Ceres bus in Sitio Matnog, Barangay Putat, Tuburan in northern Cebu Tuesday night.

Driver Napoleon Mahinay was declared dead on arrival at the Tuburan District Hospital. The child, CJ Senining, was the other fatality.

Three other van passengers suffered serious injuries and were brought to a hospital in Cebu City. They were identified as Victoria Senening, Margie mahinay and Fancisca Senening.

Tuburan police said the Ceres bus came from Mandaue City while the van came from Tuburan and was going to the town of Tabuelan.

Chief Inspector Rolan Alister, Tuburan police chief, said the accident happened when the van crossed the Ceres bus lane. The van was totally damaged after the collision.

They are still verifying a report that the van driver was drunk.

The van’s passengers were said to have attended a birthday party in Tuburan.

Meanwhile, bus driver Robin Ompad has been arrested.

According to Ompad, the van suddenly crossed his lane with its headlights off.

Ompad may face a case of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and multiple physical injuries. - ABS-CBN News
