Senator Leila De Lima was arrested today by members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group after a Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) judge ordered her arrest yesterday afternoon.
De Lima was arrested at the Senate past 8 a.m and was brought to Camp Crame for booking.
Muntinlupa RTC Branch 204 Judge Juanita Guerrero ordered De Lima's arrest after it cited probable cause for charges against the Senator, accused to have abetted the illegal drug trade in the New Bilibid Prison while she was Secretary of Justice from 2010 to 2015.
The Justice Department on February 17 filed three criminal cases against De Lima for allegedly violating the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said the cases against De Lima are non-bailable and are punishable with reclusion perpetua or life imprisonment.
De Lima's case was raffled off on Monday.
De Lima's co-accused, Ronnie Dayan – who is also her former driver and lover – was arrested yesterday in Pangasinan. He will be brought to Manila today. - CNN Philippines
