DSWD7 to honor Pantawid Pamilya “exemplary” fathers

To recognize their role as community models who champion gender relations in their homes and communities, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) VII will honor this Friday three Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) exemplary fathers.

Dubbed as “Modelong Ama ng Pantawid Pamilya” regional search, the program aims to rally support from men to champion women’s empowerment and gender equality within the context of the Program and its communities.

The search is for all male members of 4Ps; these members should be fathers, grandfathers and/or husbands, and even solo parents, whose age range from 28 years old and above. Candidates must be a Pantawid member for at least two years.

DSWD-7 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre explained that the search intends to create community awareness that men, too, in particular, male Pantawid beneficiaries, can be active partners in promoting gender equality by concretely taking active role against gender-based discrimination and gender-based violence cases in families and communities.

Contenders for the regional search are Federico Rodrigo Ellut of Poblacion, Daanbantayan, Cebu; Antonio Aguinid of Lotloton, Enrique Villanueva, Siquijor; and Joelito Lastimoso of Lungsodaan, Mabini, Bohol.

Ellut, Aguinid and Lastimoso are the provincial winners of the said search.

The regional awarding will take place at Golden Peak Hotel this Friday.

Winners will take home cash prizes and certificates from DSWD-7.

Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program is both a human capital investment and a social protection program of the Philippine Government implemented by DSWD, which caters to some 4.3 million active households.

It is the government’s poverty reduction program with a crucial role to the county’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals such as eradicating all forms of poverty everywhere, assuring quality education for all, achieving gender equality and empowerment of women and girls, ensuring healthy lives and well-being, and reducing all forms of inequality.
